4 stars: I would suggest sentence building. First learn fragments, then create sentences. This way the user can have a better handle on Mandarin syntax. Rethink an approach to learning characters. Maybe match 10 characters with 10 pinyin words. Speaking skills could be enhanced with a show-English-speak-Chinese section. That said, one of the better language tools I have encountered.
5 stars: Still on the earlier stages of this app, so far very happy with it. Nice introductions to each stage, very interactive, great help being able to hear words and sentences introduced and also being given feedback on my attempts to verbalise them. Makes use of smartphone technology beautifully. Course syllabus is good too as I want to pick up useful Mandarin quickly, then extend capability over time. I highly recommend this app.
5 stars: This app is extremely helpful since you learn mostly in sentences (writing, reading, speaking) which is great since learning only standalone words won't get you far in a short period of time. I wish this app had japanese as well since i've been studying it for a long time but had trouble speaking or writing since i learned standalone kanji and grammar separately.
