2 stars: - Yes, you will find a better deal. However hotels consider 3rd party travel site requests as "optional". Also some of these suggestions are from companies that have serious customer complaints about honoring reservations. One example is while my wife and my parents are on a family trip to DC, mom booked hotel thru a third party travel site and requested a room with 2 beds. When we checked in there were no rooms with 2 beds, only a room with 1 bed. They pulled in a literal cot for my wife and I which we shared for the night. After that they moved us into a room with two beds. When my mom asked why, when she had requested a 4 occupancy room, the hotel said that 3rd party site's requests were optional. This is about the 4th time this has happened to us over the years. We have stopped looking for a deal and just booking through the hotel directly. Most have been willing to compromise on price.
