3 stars: Good app with national and local shows, streams fine on tablet but Chromecast streaming constantly switches between low and high quality. I have the 2nd gen Chromecast and it has no problem streaming 1080p60 content from YouTube, so I assume it's an issue with PBS and not my network.
3 stars: The app skips around in the video via Chromcast. It will rewind a few second and play again, or skip a few seconds at a time.
3 stars: Content is excellent. I don't mind paying the $5 monthly contribution to support PBS. The actual app, however, is not that great. The search function is not user friendly and the app doesn't seem to remember what show you were watching last. The shows are organized in such a way that makes discovering new content difficult. I give this app five stars for content and one star for overall design, an average of three. 🤷🏻
4 stars: Very nice to be able to watch PBS shows. The app has a cleaner more graphical interface than the PBS website, and is more reliable. Updates have improved stability so it's possible to watch videos consistently, unlike earlier versions. The Smart Manager still occasionally complains it's slowing things down and draining the battery, but less often. More recent updates seem to have greatly improved the efficiency, and it no longer noticeably overtaxes system resources. But it still crashes/stops quite frequently.
