5 stars: The app has been pretty reliable over several months. The underlying service doesn't seem quite as polished for video chat and screen sharing seems not easily possible currently. As an alternative to having data trapped in Slack, Riot is good.

4 stars: The app is not perfect but it is constantly updated and does what it's supposed to do. The fact that you don't need to provide your phone number to create an account is a huge plus.
4 stars: Matrix is the future of communication and riot is the main app. I really like what they are doing and it works well but without a way to easily delete and manage history (on my device) i dont see how it can become widely used. Also e2e encryption should b default for everything, that way it doesnt matter what servers r doing with info. When i can manage my personal info like i can on signal, ill make this my main app.
3 stars: I can't get voice or video calls to work on Android :/ It just won't connect at all. I have no idea how to fix this, any advice? I'm on Samsung Galaxy S9+ with Android 9
5 stars: Very nice alternative to Signal. Allows you to run your own matrix server, and to use without providing a phone number or email address.
